The highway down to High River was in pretty good shape and ploughs and gritters were out in force. There were reports of some slippery road conditions up in Calgary so care was needed.

It was a fairly sunny day and didn't feel quite as cold as predicted. It started to snow early evening and got progressively heavier. We were in Calgary at around 7.30pm and visibility and conditions were very poor for the drive home.

Due to the melt, the highways on the drive into work were very slushy and the wind was strong on the open highway, so caution was needed. There was also a lot of spray from other vehicles. Advice is to slow down, take care, make sure windscreen fluid is topped up and clean your lights if you need to.

It was still very windy overnight and for most of today. We are told that around 20cm of snow fell yesterday, although that readings is taken at the airport, we suspect there was a fair bit more than that down here in Okotoks. Today started at -7 and rose to -4, but with the wind chill it felt much much colder. We haven't ventured out today, so we can't comment on the condition of the highways, but the side roads are in pretty bad shape.

It didn't snow much if at all, hard to tell as there is a lot of blowing snow.

A number of cars parked on the side of the road had to be dug out.

There were reports of nearly 200 accidents just in the City of Calgary yesterday.

We have another weather warning in effect as follows:
Winter storm warning for: Okotoks, High River & Claresholm

Snow blowing snow and strong winds tonight. This is a warning that dangerous winter weather conditions are imminent or occurring in these regions. Monitor weather conditions...Listen for updated statements.

Snow at times heavy is persisting in the southeast corner of Alberta this evening. Another 10 cm is possible by morning. Strong northerly winds continue to blow up to 60 gusting 80 km/h giving near zero visibilities in blowing snow. Conditions are expected to improve from the northwest tonight as winds diminish and snow tapers off.

The weather warning is still in effect today and it had started to snow lightly in Okotoks and High River by 9am. By 10am snow fall was quite heavy and conditions were getting worse. As the day went on, wind and blowing snow made conditions brutal and despite the mild terperature, the northerly wind chill made it feel absolutely freezing.

This Highway alert was issued on the AMA site: R C M P in the Calgary area are asking motorists to stay off of the highways. The Queen Elizabeth Highway 2, northbound and southbound is closed between Calgary and Airdrie because of a motor vehicle collision. Highway 2 at the highway 7 intersection near Okotoks is closed due to a multiple vehicle pile-up.

It was a bright a crisp and cloudless start to the day, but very cold. It was -22 at 8.30am. There was a bit of very light fog on the drive to work this morning but by 9.15am it was clear blue sky and sunshine.

The following Winter storm warning has been issued for tomorrow.
Okotoks, High River & Claresholm

An Arctic cold front will sweep southeastward across Southern Alberta Friday bringing snow blowing snow and strong winds. This is a warning that dangerous winter weather conditions are imminent or occurring in these regions. Monitor weather conditions...Listen for updated statements.

An Arctic cold front will sweep rapidly southeastward across Southern Alberta through the day on Friday. This front will be accompanied by snow, strong winds and blowing snow. Snowfall accumulations of 10 to 20 centimetres can be expected in many regions by midnight Friday. The front will also be accompanied by strong north to northwest winds resulting in widespread blowing snow and near zero visibilities. These reduced visibilities will be most pronounced in exposed and rural areas. The winds will slowly begin to ease overnight Friday.

In the wake of this cold front much cooler air will settle over the province on Saturday.

This winter storm can produce poor travelling conditions. Persons in or near these areas should be on the lookout for adverse weather conditions and listen for updated warnings.

Over the southwest strong west winds will develop through some mountain passes and adjacent valleys this evening. These winds will persist into Friday morning before easing below warning levels.
